Planer / Sander

Would you recommend / prefer a planer or big honking sander? Buying "surfaced" wood locally, 3/4" is 13/16", etc., etc. Most of the wood is under 10" in width. Can's afford both, been looking at the DeWalt 13" for a while. Suggestions?

Agree totally. It's time to break the '3/4" habit!!'

A planer wins hands down. No matter how "honking big" it was I certainly would not want to use a sander to prepare some of the wood that I have processed with my planer.

Surface planer first!
