I finally bought a digital camera so I thought I'd post some pics of one of my recent jobs. This is a solid cherry window bench, L-shaped, about 24' overall. It runs between the fireplace and a sliding glass door. The whole thing overlooks Puget Sound from about 100' up on a hill. Sure wish my house had a view like this!:) I guess they liked it because they want me build the cabinets for the kitchen remodel thay're getting ready to do.

Very nice Steve! ...does the top flip up for access and storage?

Mainly for access and cleaning. There are heating vents under there that I put plastic diverters on and in this house most of the electrical outlets are in the floor. There are three and hinging the tops was the easiest way to give them access. The wall valve for the gas fireplace is there also.

Those really are beautiful, Steve. Some curl in the cherry, too. Nice! (And yea, I bet the view is wonderful...)

Gorgeous, I can't even imagine the cost of the lumber for this job. Quite elegant.

Well Done!!! I'm getting the bug to try a project in cherry. My skill level dictates it will be quite a bit smaller because of the cost of mistakes when using cherry.

BTW, how did you finish it??? I love it.

Thanks for let us see it... Ken

Gail, the materials were right at $1000. The labor was quite a bit more than that. Ken the finish is about nine coats of a combination oil and varnish. Straight oil for the first couple and then adding varnish. The client wanted it to match some other furniture which dictated the finish.

Wonderful looking job, I especially like the flair on the feet, makes a nice transition between the bench(s) and the floor.

Can't wait to see the kitchen!

Steve, that is quite the bench! The cherry looks great. Is that 16/4?

Steve,

Super job with design and execution. On a job like that it must be hard to keep your eyes on your work and not the view!
