Here are some pics on a modest kitchen reface my brothers and I just completed. The doors were fabricated from melamine with the outside surface laminated with high gloss Formica. All doors were edged with oak, as well as the other moldings in the kitchen. The doors sport plexiglass inserts with a decal-like pattern applied to them. Door pulls are european and were ordered via the internet. The whole job probably costed less than $800.

WOW,, excellent work. Looks good, the white w/ oak trim is great. A sky light to boot. Did you do the recess lighting as well? Tiles too? All for $800?

Mike...I would probably never install another white floor again! I had about a 15 minute window to take this photo upon cleaning the floor!

Doug...the recessed lighting, and countertop and floor tiles were installed about 16 years ago just after we acquired the house. The tiled peninsula table and overhead lighting are new though and part of the $800.

thanks...Jeff

Great job, Jeff. Nice clean lines, and the oak really accents the white very nicely.

Just spectacular! A top-notch job.

My wife and I have a white kitchen floor, white counter tops, white appliances and whitewashed oak cabinets. Of course all of these decisions were made pre-children!

It's nice to see something a little different and this sure fits the bill. Great job and can't beat the price.

I can't quite put my finger on it but, I think the whole thing just looks so real slick!!! :) Very cool, indeed. A real professional look to it, Jeff! Tell us more about that high gloss formica, please. Almost has a chrome look to it from the pics. Great job and the whole thing just flows really nice! :)

Thanks for the kind words.

Formica comes in different grades for different applications. Some are ok for high wear surfaces like countertops, and some are not. They actually have a grade specifically for elevator use!

The Formica in my application is for low-wear surfaces such as cabinet doors, display cases, etc. It is called Grade 20 and is very thin. In fact, if you have a small speck of dust in the contact cement while gluing it, you will actually notice it telegraphing through the surface! With the laminate being so thin, and the laminate being so glossy, this was understandable albeit not anticipated at the time.

Of a special note, if you are interested in using a Formica product, go to their website to check out the selection. They have a finder that helps you find sheet sizes and grades for the colors and patterns you like. You can then have samples sent to you (got mine in about three days), then order the sheets from your local building supply.

Once again, thanks for the compliments! :)
