I got a couple of great concert DVDs for Christmas: the Cream reunion and the George Harrison tribute concert. Is there any way to rip the audio tracks to MP3 format?

Hope this helps or at least gets you heading in the right track.

Wow, how bizarre, I got the same DVD concerts for Christmas.

Anyway, about a year ago I did just what your planning with a AKUS DVD (Alison Krause and Union Station). Don't remember the exact details, but I believe I setup the free recording software that came with my soundcard to record the DVD to a big .wav file. I just had to "play" the DVD for recording to begin. Then I used some other software I already had (can't remember which, maybe Windows Media Player) to convert the .wav to .mp3 tracks.

The music is now on my IPOD.

Sorry I can't remember the exact procedure, but it's doable.

You will need a program to extract the ac3 file. Get that here (http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/DVD_Decrypter/1011845169/1)

Just be aware that what you're doing is in violation of the DMCA. Seems kind of silly, but whoever said that big business made sense.

SteveI seriously doubt it. But if it is, anyone who gives me advice on the matter (including all the web sites and software I found from my google search) are guilty as well, under the "enabling" clause.

And anyone who's put off about giving me advice on this topic, not a problem: I purchased some software yesterday afternoon that does the job quite nicely. When the feds come calling, I'll just cut a deal and turn the vendors in for the reward. Or not.

Get a grip.
