I have a fence that needs replacing. I built the original fence with what I had around 18 years ago. The posts are pressure treated in the ground and seem solid. The rails are 2x10 non treated used building planks and have rotted. I have access to some solid PVC that is 5/4x11 1/4x 12 long for a very reasonable price. My question is would they be strong enough to last 18 or more years. I have a good friend with a sawmill that I can get pine uprights very reasonable. This fence is the back of a garden and mainly to hide junk. The building in the photo is a Barn/Shop/Storage building in back of the house.

Problem with using PVC rails is that you'd have to look at them for as long as they last, and they are ugly.

I don't think PVC boards would support the weight of the pickets and would sag over time.

I agree with Lee...they do not have the stiffness necessary to provide the required support and will also sag in the heat. Use PT lumber for this purpose, IMHO. KD if you can get it so you can paint it sooner.
