View Full Version : Sawstop Table slot clamps

I might be going about this the wrong away, but here goes.

I like to use my Sawstop table as my flat reference when cutting Dominoes on the edge of board.

I have a magnetic fence that works as a backstop.

But when doing the dominoes, sometimes the boards have a slight bow, that means there's a slight gap between the table and the work piece. I can usually press the workpiece flat, to the table, with a couple of fingers, but these fingers are also on the hand that holds the front of the Domino tool, so I'm pressing in one direction while trying to keep the tool positioned.

A toggle clamp, that would ride in the tables saw slot, to clamp the wood, would be perfect.

So I think I'm looking for T nuts/bolts that would possibly fit.

My other thought is to build a base, for the clamp, that uses a 150lb Magswitch.

Magswitches are what first came to mind when I read your need. But using the tee slots could work fine if you can find or make appropriate inserts to bolt into from above. It might be your opportunity to try your hand at machining aluminum on your new CNC even...but try it with oak first with a threaded insert and big washers fastened to the material wide enough to catch the tee part on the bottom of the slots.

Lee Valley sells a T-track plate (base) for toggle clamps here:
https://www.leevalley.com/en-us/shop/tools/hand-tools/clamps/71461-t-track-toggle-clamp-plate-and-bessey-auto-adjust-clamps?item=50F0130

From their burb:
"The plate also has two holes for attaching the plate to a T-track miter-slot slider bar such as the Incra Miter Slider bars, so you can use your saw table as a surface for assembly work."

I don't believe that's sized for a table saw tee slot based on reading the text, but could be wrong about that.

Sorry Jim, I edited my post to add the bit on adapting it for the table saw.

Took apart a Magswitch jig and searched my misc stuff draw and came up with this.

It could do with stronger Magswitches, but it worked..

To do what you have pictured, I think I would simply drill and tap a hole in the saw table.

Lee Valley sells a "double t-slot track" that slides into a tablesaw miter slot and converts it into a t track

They don't show it in a tablesaw slot but it fits my Unisaw perfectly and I use it regularly

Just a follow up, I got the Woodpeckers Miter Slot Nuts, today, and they fit the Sawstop miter slots perfectly.

Just a quick note.

Two years ago I bought miter slot nuts like the above post, and forgot I had them. Mine are from Lee Valley, and look exactly the same, but they have two plastic spacers.

I tried them out today, and they work as advertised...but...one of the four I received had a 1/4" bolt that did not have the threads cut completely down to the head. This left the head slightly above the recess in the aluminum piece, and it would not quite fit into the slot because it was a bit too thick.

Easily fixed by finding a bolt in my supply that had the complete threads, which fixed the problem.

Posting only to mention it in case someone else has that problem.
