Please forgive me... I did not realize there was a rule for having to have the photos before I was allowed to share !! :D

So as a bonus... I have a few extra pics of the shop. Now keep in mind, it is a bit messy, moving things around to make room. What do you mena... doesnt everyone have a Bridgeport in the wood shop...

I have a couple more pics in another post to follow

Jim,

Congratulations! I got the same machine last April and I know you'll be happy with it. The tables on mine were dead-flat, too. The kids cal it "Dad's thousand-pound thing".

The only issue I've had with it was during the summer, as it is near a window, the sun would beat down on the control stalk. Since the thermal overload is inside it, I got some nuisance tripping due, I believe, to the overload protector being so hot in the first place. 'hasn't been a problem in cooler weather.

You also have a ready-made guest cot in case unwelcome family members invite themselves over to visit.

"Stout" looking machine, Jim!! I'm looking forward to your comments once you have some mileage on it.

Forget the bridgeport clone, tell us more about the camel back straight edge. Looks like a brown and sharpe. Now that is the tool for checking the jointer tables. How long is that puppy? Is it in good shape? That is a find as i am always on the hunt for these. Nothing makes jointer work easier than a couple of nice camel back straight edges. Esp. if they are wearyweary long!

Hahaha no kidding! It's to scale too! Too funny. I've got the grizzly 6" and really like it so far. I am wondering how long it'll be before I want the 8" or bigger.

edit - hey wait a sec, that's an f-18, not a 14. Tryin to trick me, eh? ;)

Marcus, when I bought my J/P nearly everyone was referring to it as the "aircraft carrier"...so I stopped at the local toy store and fed the myth...

Funny thing, I was just wondering yesterday WHEN someone would actually do this picture!

BTW, if you're ever in the the Smithsonian's National Air and Space museum on the mall in DC. Take a look inside the hanger deck of the huge aircraft carrier model (Enterprise, I think). Inside you find a Oliver 12" jointer! no not really, but you will see something that doesn't really belong, anyone care to guess?

Do you push wood by hand across a 12 inch jointer? I find that pushing wood across a 6 inch is work.

Cutting edge technology, Scott... :D

Excellent point. As the wood actually gets flat, you start to get a "suction" effect between the material and the tables. That makes moving it a little harder each pass when you have wide material. My jointer/planer gets around this with the particular swirly grind on the table tops. They are flat, but not "smooth", so there is air there, too. That make sliding wide boards a lot easier when you are "getting close" to done.
