looking for ideas to reduce drill bit vibration, When I first enter the material I get massive vibration making the top hole wider of course. No matter how slow I go. I don't typically see it when I use smaller bits, however spinning a 31/64 I get it BAD. Ideas ?

BTW I'm over 1000 posts !

Have you checked out the obvious - run out and a worn out chuck? You may be getting vibration with the small bits too but it may not be as easy to see. Want to try reseating the chuck?

With what type of drill?
Opening holes or new holes?
Brad points in wood usually track well.

The arbor on my DP is worn or maybe a tad bent, it too has the shakes. As I can't get parts for it (1950's vintage Shop smith) I make due. Your's sounds different though as I get it for all size bits and speeds.

Is the bit sharp? I've seen this with plain ol' twist bits that are dull, or have been sharpened with the point off-center.
