View Full Version : What profile is this rail and stile

Trying to find this profile or how it is achieved for rail and stile doors. I like the stepped down look while keeping a flat panel. I think it would add some dimension if this was done on a white cabinet door. Is this profile I cant find or is it just a simple shaker and a rabbet done afterwards and clean up the corners with a chisel? Just to clarify, I realize the face frame is beaded, its the inner profile on the rails and stiles that I'm after.

I think I see an ogee profile, or perhaps a bead profile. Many of the router bit makers such as Whiteside or Infinity make rail & stile sets with these profiles.

Hey Jeff,

That looks like a beaded faceframe with inset doors. Inset doors and drawers get a little finicky if you want a super tight reveal, but i agree, that style looks stellar when painted.

I reread your initial post, and you need another router bit or cutter to create that profile in the faceframe. That extra bead is not a part of the cabinet door.

thanks but the question is on the doors, I realize its a beaded face frame. I dont think its an ogee either, if you zoom in its a square cut.

For those of us viewing this on the "big screen", can you provide a close-up photo of the profile, such as in one of the corners?

Scale of picture makes it hard to tell, but could it be the Whiteside #6001 ("Round Stile & Rail") set?

Here you go Jim, to me it looks square cut. Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me.

Take a look at the Whiteside #6004 set - it is "straight", as in not curved, but angled....?

A slightly higher res image. Agree it looks square cut.

Look through the manufacturers' catalogs and you will probably find the cope and stick set used. It would be possible but impractical to add that small quirk to a square edge frame. You could have it custom ground if you know what you want.

Freeborn has a couple options I attached a picture of the part numbers from the catalog.

That looks really close, thanks. Now I have to decide if its worth spending $585.00 for the cutter stack.

If you have a local dealer they can usually give you a better price. My local guy will usually sell me a set for about 500$

Talk to Dave at Oella Saw in Baltimore. Shipping isn’t much, and his prices are very good.
