Great! I'd like to find a paper version of that for my library (one I didn't have to print!)

I've seen other, older versions of that story, such as this, the 14th reprint originally published in 1913:

I use the shellac-based Mylands friction polish on the lathe. We sometimes think we are using modern techniques but I read an account of a traveler to India in the 1600s - he wrote about watching a man applying friction polish to utility items he made by spinning (I think it was a foot-powered lathe), holding a piece of lac to the spinning surface to apply by by friction. I thought I saved the text, entertaining in the dialect of the time, but can't find it. :(

Awesome guys very interesting reading. Do you know that the word lakh is very much used in India even today for 100,000 . Such as , his salary is 5 lakhs!
