This is the last of the four tool boxes I plan to make. Black Walnut and Hard Maple.

Just mitred corners. The notable feature is is that there is no spline or reinforcing. Instead, the end grain corners are sized and glued.

Sizing involved a layer of glue on the end grain, allow to near-dry, then add fresh glue. The glue fills the straws and the joint avoids being glue-starved.

Knew Concepts 5" Titanium fretsaw with one of my custom handles, and a kerfing chisel.

In case you drop that one you might need to add some metal dowels to the corners!

So is this basically your portable set of joinery tools? It is all beautiful stuff. Do let us know how the mitered/ glued latest edition holds up after a couple road trips. It is a technique I have only read about so far.

Nice work. I’ve glued many mitered box corners just as you outline. Most are in possession of friends or relatives. I haven’t received any back for repairs. Maybe they just tossed them.
