Then the clean-up needs to be done....
473812
All of this mess needs to be put away..
473813
As the latest Project is scheduled to sit right here...
473815
Straighten this mess out..maybe just add some shelves to the side of the til?

BEFORE some of the tools can go back into the tool cabinet...
473816
THIS needs addressed....realigned, new storage ideas...
473817
Too much wasted space....need a better home for this guy...
473818
A Stanley No. 5, Type 19 needs someplace else to sit, besides the ledge of a swinging door....

Single Brain Cell Sketch Up is now on-line...working out a few solutions......

Anyone want to stop by to help out? They might even find a "spare tool" they can take back home.....:D

Well, some progress was made. Before I had to stop and run errands, yesterday..
473908
This messy corner has been cleaned out..
473909
Waiting to decide where the small planes will go...
473911
Chisel rack in the door will be leaving...
473912
That box will be coming out, and heading for a shelf.

Shelf brackets have been bought. Intend to add a series of shelves to the outside of the plane til...to hold the cased planes.
473914
Need to build a rack, of some sort, to house all of these squares....longest being 12"......
473916
All the bevel gauges have their own hooks..will extend the hook for the Combo Squares to hold another 3....plus a smaller hook for the 3 smaller Combo Squares (6")
The red rack is getting emptied, sorted through...may shorten it a bit and add it to where the chisel rack USED to be.

473917
Work-in-Progress....anyone want to stop by and help out?

Stay tuned...

Ok..some progress updates. Temporary Housing for a few squares..
473947
Until this can be glued up..
473948
Might need another spacer, or 2? 6 combo squares....

As for the "Main" square rack...
473949
Thicker parts are to allow me to drill a countersunk hole through, to add a 3" screw to mount the rack in place...Vise is a 3rd hand to hold this mess flat. Tomorrow, I'll drill and sand it, and see about a place to hang it...and the 9 squares...

The old chisel rack that was in the saw door...
473950
Has been moved to the back of the bench...
473951
Already starting to fill up.

May re-configure the Plane Til...so I can park BOTH Stanley No. 8s on the bottom shelf....may move some of the extra #3 and #4 to the shelf under the bench...
Have already removed a few screwdrivers from the red rack....thinking there is not much need for a #3 Phillips that is 12" long.....Trying to downsize the "collection" of screwdrivers down to what I actually USE in the shop.

All cased planes are now back IN there cases....swapped #79 planes...as one I can't get the knicker bolt to budge ( all munged up) so the one with a good bolt will get the fence and stop parts....

Need to go and buy a box of 3/4" long screws, to hang some shelf brackets with. And, a stick of 1 x 10...to make the shelves from....

Next question....Can I even FIT both No. 8s in that bottom shelf of the till? Right now there are two No. 7s sitting there.

Stay tuned...:D

OK, IF I can get these photos to actually show up on THIS site (have no trouble on three other sites) Today's Follies...

473985
Rack for 9 squares, with handle support...next..
473986
This was emptied out, trimmed down for length...new location?
473987
In the door where the old chisel rack was...along with a couple small joinery saws..
473988
And that will do it for this post..this site is on "Probation" until they get the Photo Issues straightened out....all of mine are within the size limits of this site....

Until then....

Try a couple more....just to see...
474018
Sorting....
474019
Keeper install...
474020
Keeper locked in place...

See how this goes..

Took a bit of cussing and fighting today, but..
474082
Added a keeper, because someone kept trying to run away..
474083
May add a magnetic strip behind the blades, and above the rack?
474084
Left door is filling up..
474085
Which leaves this space...
474086
To decide what to hang here....

Stay tuned...

I am curious, do you use all those hand drills (don't know the right name)? Or is it more of a collection?

I like hammers and have a bunch. But most of them never see any use. There are 2-3 hammers in collection and they do all the work. Rest, I just like having them.

Used one of the "Egg Beater" to drill pilot holes for hinge screws. And a 10" sweep brace with a #4 bit to install a wooden knob. They do get used...depends on the Project.

Hammers? Used as the needs arise. Always nice to have the right size for the job..

Picked up a 1 x8x 6' pine plank today...and a packet of 3/4" long screws to install shelf bracket with...

On the way to Lowes and the Chevy Dealership...stopped at an Antique mall here in town...
474127Millers Falls No. 8 (#3 size) Type 2.....price was $26.81 counting sales tax....

The plank and the screws were just over $10....not too bad of a day? Even got that rear window wiper blade fixed, FREE.

I think I need a nap, now...

474177
And a second shelf went here..

474226
This area needs to be cleaned out. That Crochet needs replaced, as it cracked.

Maybe later, I can rehab a plane?
474228
Millers Falls No. 8, Type 2...
474229
Price was $26.81, counting sales tax....

Bad when I pick up a plane to look it over, and can NOT just set it back down....hand just won't let go....My "other" No. 8 is a Type 3....
474230
Needs a little spiffing up, is all....

02-21-2022, 10:43 AM

I prefer the used look myself. I could never work on Derek's bench, he'd kill me. I've never been protective of it in the least and I've never oiled or put any kind of finish it it intentionally :-)

Had to clear out a spot in front of the Tool Cabinet...was a bit overflowing with...stuff..
474673
I might see what I could place there...and still allow the doors to swing open....and prevent it from filling back up again...
