Guys, someone out there has got to give me better news than what I got today. I recently was transferred from Washington State to Virginia. I'm living in Chesapeake. On someone's advice I went to what I was told the "best" place to get wood around here - Blue Ridge Hardwoods. Not only was the selection small, but the price almost made me faint. Before leaving Washington I bought about 1000 bf of hard maple at $2.50...it's $4.55 here!!! And all in small widths.

Please...is there a better place out there??? TIA...

Be well,

Doc

I am in Alabama - so I can't help much. You might just want to take a short drive over to Keith Outten's place and raid his stock while he's not there. <p align="center">

Doc,
You are now in the South. We don't have hard maple growing around here in sufficent quantity to have a harvestable supply. You are going to have to pay for the cost of trucking it from places like Washington.

I can add that Wall Lumber, near where I live in the Piedmont Region of NC has 4/4 hard maple for $3.15 bft. No connection here but just a satisfied customer.

Steve Wall's web site is www.walllumber.com

Donald,

Here are a couple more local lumber suppliers to try.

Yukon Lumber - Norfolk (757-625-7131) or (800-325-wood)

Earth Resources - Grafton area of York County (757-898-0045)

Sorry but I don't have any hard maple at the moment but I do have about 600 bd/ft of the best quality red oak (dehumidification dried to 6%) you have ever seen. Most of the lumber I have is in 8 foot lengths since this is the length of my kiln.

Yukon is probably the largest lumber supplier in the area. They carry a very large inventory including most exotic woods and plywood materials.

Earth Resources does not have a tremendous amount of lumber, the guy who runs ER gets lumber from his son in Carolina I think and sells it in the local area. They do have some nice stuff though and often have 6 and 8 quarter available so they are often a good source.

Lumber prices in our area are very high right now, at least that is my opinion. Green lumber prices from the local mills is also very high right now. I have my kiln loaded with 8 qtr white oak and when this load is done I may have to quit drying until the prices come back down to earth.

Hard Maple is not a local species, there are a few deals to be had on local wood species if you look for them.
