Or are there any websites? Or e-mail newsletters? I'd like to try my hand at turning and do a little homework first. Thank you. Howard

Hi Howard,
Put this question to Mike Brazeau on the WoodCentral Turning forum. I know he checks in there perodically. He is the President of the Golden Horseshoe Woodturners Guild, in our area, and he sent me one of their newsletters. BTW, I recall reading your tribute to your late father - very moving. It was about the same time as I was writing my Dad's obituary.

Hi Howard

Welcome to the dark side.

Woodturning resources on the Internet?

You should start with the AAW (American Association of Woodturners) (http://www.woodturner.org/).

There is a woodturning club you should plan on visiting. Give Michael a call or e-mail him.

Woodturners Guild of Ontario

There are several good woodturning forums. Each has a different flavor and you may find some more to your liking than others.

Wood Central has a woodturning forum

Wood Magazine has a woodturning forum

The AAW has a woodturning forum and a separate e-mail list

There are Yahoo groups about woodturning. One Yahoo group focuses on segmented woodturning.

There are a few resource woodturning web sites. There are manufacturers web sites which often include tips. There is a news group fro woodturning. There are hundreds of personal websites of woodturners.

Sawmill Creek has a good woodturning presence.

Howard, there are certainly a number of turning sites out there with alot of useful information and instruction, but there really is no substitute for one-on-one lessons. I had the good fortune to get started with Kurt Krauter, Mark Kauder, Dave Smith, Ken Salisbury, Bill Grumbine and a few others at the Pond-O-Rama and End-O-Pond gatherings at Ray Thompson's.

I now have a lathe and am working at acquiring much of the related paraphernalia as it is a very addictive and satisfying hobby and skill.

There are also quite a few experienced turners who visit this forum who would be glad and more than willing to answer your questions.
