Well, here it sits waiting for the customer to provide the pulls of their choice. It's made of paulownia wood which has gone through a water soaking process for days to remove the sap. The wood is light as a feather as a result. The customer provided the wood which was in rough condition. The joinery is through-dovetails. Since the owner wants no finish on it, I'm done except the pulls. He says that because of this process the wood will not expand or contract and that Paulownia is very stable. We'll see. It's 17 1/2"W x 12"H x 38 1/2"L. It's going to Japan to hold Kamonia's (not sure about the spelling)

Beautiful job Chris. I have heard of paulownia tree rustlers around this area cutting paulownia trees in the dark of night. Story has it that of a certain size, the trunks are very valuable to folks in Japan. The scum bags go onto others property, cut the trees down, cut the best part of the trunk off, carry it off and ship it to Japan for a great profit. Don't know if the whole story is true but I do know of a tree about 500 yards from my house that was stolen about a year ago.

Did you do the treatment of the wood or did the customer? If you did it would be interesting to hear further details about it. (No, I don't have that tree trunk on my lumber pile.)

How was the wood to work with? Does it chip out or is it fuzzy, details please.

I don't know his process. The customer is actually my hardwood supplier and sells this processed paulownia. It is the easiest wood I have ever worked with in every way. No splitting or fuzzys. Sorry I couldn't help you more.

Very Nice Chris. Beautiful wood. Nice corner joinery too. I wish you were finishing it also, I'll bet that wood is very attractive with a clear finish. At least you can now say your work is known world wide! :D Thanks for sharing the pictures.

I was curious about this wood, as I know little about it. I found this website about Paulownia Wood that is very interesting. Learned something new today! :)

Please identify the supplier.

The supplier is HH & NK in Kings Mt., NC Their number is 704-739-6914. They sell many different hardwoods and do their own kiln drying right there. Have a great week.

Beautiful work! My guess is that the owner will paint is black-laquer! Then, all those beautiful corners will disappear. So, in a way it is good that you won't see it then. Phil

Beautiful job Chris,

The box is beauitful. I too wish you were finishing it. It just looks like it would really stand out with a clear finish on it. The construction looks great. How does it feel to be an International Wood worker?
