Anyone know what this stand is? It been hanging around for years.
The wheels don't lock (look original) so I don't think it's for lathe work.
A friend suggested it's an older stand for a clothes steamer.

What's at the top...it's cropped out of the photo. ;)

It says "DUART" on the stand. DuArt is/was a film and recording studio, so possibly something related to that realm. Without seeing the top it's really hard to tell.

I can’t work out how to upload photos from my iPhone and google doesn’t tell me.
I’ll do it tonight at home.

No idea, but I have a stand somewhat like that with a heavy cast iron base, and a spring inside the tube, that helps it extend when you release the lock.

Mine has a simple 2" wide/12" long board on top. I use it all the time to hold long items on my drill press, my work bench, and anywhere else I need it. Mine has better wheels on it, and I have even used it to hold big sheets of ply on the TS, where it actually rolls along with the cut.

It was given to me by (?) at least 25 years ago.

We all see things differently. Some probably remember making Dad a tie rack….and then seeing it in the garage loaded with paint brushes.

Be sure you're using "full view" rather than "mobile" view... you "should" be able to upload at that point.

That's an old microphone stand.

That's an old microphone stand.

That would make sense, probably for a hefty boom setup based on the design of the base.

Ah okay, that makes sense, a microphone stand. Thanks Johnny and all of you.
I'll see if I can adapt it ala Mr Potter. If not one of my friend's sons will have yet another vintage thingie for their den of living interestingly.

That's the base for a Duart perm machine - like this one:

It looks like something out of a horror movie!

Looks like a torture device for a milk cow.
