A year or two ago one of the mags had a shop apron comparison test in it. Anyone remember where it was. One of the aprons caught my eye and I can't remember what kind it was. Seems like it was a gray colored short bib. Thanks........

Ken,

First welcome to the creek.

I am going to play this one straight, you

see I was going to post a picture of some frilly apron,

you know with ducks and such on it. Only because I just

got done reading the post on WW machine painting.

Any way, I don't remember the article, but Duluth Trading,

a internet work gear site sells a fine apron.

Hope this helps.

That link seems to not be good anymore Bill, at least for me. Got another one?

I typed it in manually and it worked.

Thanks everyone. The article you cited, Roger, was the one I recalled. I just couldn't remember where I had seen it. I appreciate everyone's help.

I've heard welders' aprons are not expensive and available at any welding supply shop. One would have to sew on pockets, but that is doable. Hope that is what my next one will be.

In this post I showed my first apron which was modified & I still have it is on the first page. On the 3 rd page I have shown the new "apron" system that my wood working buddy brought me. This system is easier to get into & distributes the weight much better. The best part is I never lose my pencil or measuring tape & I always know where my squares are. If I'm careful I might even get something done.

Here are a couple of sources that you may not have seen yet. At the second site, The Morgan Company will be making my next shop apron in March 2006 - The Builder's Apron in green 14oz cotton.

I saw Ken's pic when it was first posted, and only remained quiet because I was speechless. I'm still kinda gasping for air here. :p

As far as aprons go, as attractive as Ken's is, I think I'll stick with the hand-me-down cotton "engineer stripes" apron my granddad wore. Still has another 50 or 60 years left in it. ;)

how appropriate. That is about the best use of a Wally World sack (pardon the pun) I've ever seen. But I'm kind of sorry I did see that. I'll have to bring this up with my therapist.

Although it was pretty expensive ($85), I bought one of Lie-Nielsen's aprons. It only has one inside chest pocket, but I didn't get it for aprons - I got it to keep from getting beaten up if things get thrown or when I lean on rough edges, and for that, it's INCREDIBLE. It's made from two layers of very heavy split suede that feels like it could stop thrown grindstone bits or wood thrown off of a tablesaw without even noticing. It's full knee length with cross straps and is split towards the bottom so that it doesn't tangle your legs (the split parts are connected by an extra bit of leather). It's comfortable to wear and, like I said, makes me a lot more comfortable standing in front of a tablesaw (I almost got hit in the stomach by a piece of MDF that passed my by, put a big dent in a metal grille, then almost broke a window, and I've been a bit antsy since then).

Thought I'd throw it out there - it's not mentioned in that review article.
