View Full Version : Air-tight squeeze bottle for solvent glues?

Hi everyone...

I have a metal tube of high temp solvent based glue (label indicates Acetone) and the tube tore a tiny hole while mixing it for first use.

I bagged it but I doubt a zipper sandwich bag will prolong the life and I'd also like a nozzle for finer application. The tube looks like the Squadron Green Putty tubes for reference. I'd not worry too much about it except it's pricey and only used about $1 of the $20 I had to spend to get it. I'd appreciate some suggestions as it dries extremely fast and has a remarkable immediate tack.

Thanks,
Mak

Depending on how viscous it is, one of the precision oiler bottles or tubes might work, or similar bottles they make for applying flux to electronic circuits.

Can you seal the tear with a piece of foil tape?

It's pretty viscous, like cool honey. I'll try the tape trick. Can't believe I didn't think of that :)
Thanks, Paul.

do you have a vacuum food sealer? Once you tape the tube, put the taped tube into a seal bag and vacuum seal it--

Acetone has such a low flash point that I'd be worried that putting it in even a partial vacuum might literally cause the acetone to boil out of the adhesive. Be careful to run the vacuum just to the point of getting most of the air out before sealing the bag.

This worked.
I cleaned the tube and put a layer or two of foil HVAC tape on and it's good to go. No more oozing out the pinhole.

I'll check up on in a week or so and report back.

Thanks everyone!
