I just changed out most of the old struts on the basement doors of our motorhome. The old ones still work, but they're only pushing about 1/2 their rating. I was just going to trash 'em or take them to Goodwill, but thought I'd ask first...

-they're all 17" out/ 10" in, and have 10mm ball-socket ends.
I have 10ea 40# and 7ea 60#, and by Tuesday I'll have a half dozen 90#ers.

no charge, I'll even ship 'em :)

My father would have taken those in a heartbeat. I don’t want to say he was a hoarder but he sort of was. He would look at a broken wood clothes hanger and say, “that’s a perfectly good piece of maple.” After he died, my mother had to clean out all of that stuff. It took her and her 3 months with intermittent help from family.

But thanks for the kind offer.

I did cut out the metal piston and made a point tool for woodturning that works great. I read it's really hard metal. Don't really know that however.

Make sure they are dampened in both directions for this application, else you might protect against pinched fingers, but split a little one's chin on the way up..?

If any of these would be suitable for a "Toy box Lid" that is 27" front to back and 42" wide left to right, using only one shock per lid, made of 3/4 pine boards bound by two 3/4 pine battens, I would be VERY interested.
I make Caskets and have looked into these but sizing them is WAY to confusing for me.

Currently using the rivet joint in center stay opens, but would really prefer these if I knew exactly what to order, and HOW exactly dimensions to install.

If anyone could help me it would be VERY appreciated.

Same concerns as Malcom's post above also.

Marc

They make gas struts with a little screw to adjust.. They come fully charged and if too strong you let out some gas. Not sure about refilling.

I really knew nothing about them until this change-over. I AM glad the old ones had their 'push-weight' ratings right on the struts, the new ones don't!
