Mike Stafford sent me another chunk of Masur Birch and made me promise to make something for my wife with it. She's fond of pedestals, so I made her this lidded hollow form, with Blackwood finial and pedestal. It's just under 4" diameter by 10 1/2" tall, finished with buffed lacquer. This wood has so much figuring and curl, the pic doesn't do it any justice. I'll have to try another pic outside later. She loves it Mike, Thanks!:D

Travis, you got carried away and sanded all the spots off the middle.

I know of no one better than my friends here on the Creek when it comes to making use of a piece of wood. This HF is no exception Travis and I can tell you like working in the Masur. Really very pretty. I am glad that the LOYL is happy with it. Excellent!:D

Wonderful piece Travis!!!! How can she not love it? The pedestal really captured my attention on this one. Its lines flow through the entire piece. Nicely graceful. :)

Travis this form is exquisite with the flawless curves making the eyes follow the piece as one should. The blackwood was a great accent choice with the pedistal making it even more of a piece of art. The sholders seem so right, I can only say this piece is ready for a gallery or the home of someone that really appreciate the work of an artist. You are to be commended for your outstanding work and thank you for sharring it with us.

Travis, "exquisite" is the right word and I concure with Glenn. This is really beautifule. The proportion feels good, too. LOYL is a very lucky gal!

So what color you gonna paint it?.................... :D ;)

Nothing more to be said... I'm not surprised by the elegance. I've come to expect it.

Great work! I can't wait to see this one in person.

Thanks for the pictures!

Hi Travis,

It's hard to add to what's already been said, other than, your piece truly reflects the love that only comes from the heart.
If it's ok with you, I may just try that in a mini, if I were to give it to Gerri, I hope she doesn't feel short changed.
Really a great turning,

What Glenn said. Me too. He really has a way with words. That is soo cool. I have been experimenting with finials but never thought about pedestals. Thanks for the pics. My wife oohs and aahs over my stuff now. I think she would faint if I came in with something like that. haha

Travis, I can completely understand why Big Mike would give you such a special piece of wood. Who better to trust with it than someone with your talent. Not only do you have the methods and techniques down pat as shown in all your turnings, you have the eye for design that eludes many. You are at the top of your game and this piece is just one more testament to that fact. I know Susan must really cherish it! Once again, thanks for sharing such beautiful work with all of us.
