View Full Version : I'm not getting involved...but...

Glenn Clabo

I'm just wondering...if a friend of mine was going to get involved...which is not me of course...is a DVR-XP lathe enough to allow that someone to do a reasonable amount of this spinny thing? I...oops a little slip there...have a small basement shop that really can't take a large Powermatic Mo-Chine...but I'd like to get something...for that friend of course...that would be flexible enough to fullfil a need to create round things for a long...long time. Are there any other suggestions for this very close friend of mine?

p.s. Bill Grumbine...I'm sure DRLOML thinks there maybe be some subliminal messages on your DVD but I've tried to convince her that you wouldn't do that.

Buy yourself the DVR, you will love it.

Glenn, talk to Dick Parr he bought one a few months ago and look at all the wonderful stuff he has turned on it. I turned on it at his house and I think it is a great machine for the money. You will enjoy it!:D Or your friend will...:p

Glenn, from everything I have heard it is a good lathe. I think Carole Valentine loves hers and I'm sure she will check in on the topic.

Ken. . .Tick Tick Tick

Sorry Andy, I just had to do it.

Big Mike,
I'm not allowed to speak to at least three people on the forum...Kevin Gerstenecker (Kevin it ain't my fault), Carole Valentine (sorry she really is a VERY secure woman), and that Dick Parr guy. I seems DRLOML feels that they are a very bad influence on me (read wallet).

Carole Valentine
01-12-2006, 9:46 PM
Hmmmph! Don't quite know what to think about that...I would NEVER be a bad influence on someones' wallet!

BUY A DVR and get on with turning!
She should thank me... I could have said buy a Oneway!:D:D

Fine then. I'm not one of the aforementioned three, so you can talk to me...For your friend, of course! Your good buddy may be interested to know that I've had my mitts on a couple different brand of 1236-type machines, currently own one of those and have spun on a Vega bowl lathe AND on an older Nova DVR. It was one of those with the big ole Leeson motor hanging off of it with the variable speed box on it. I took a class at the local WC and the instructor knew that I already had the 1236 at home, so he put me on the Nova. All I can say is, that dern thing almost followed me home!!!:D So, if your friend is interested in communicating with a Nova non-owner (just so he won't be too largely influenced), feel free to have him PM me! :D

Glen your friend could do worse then the DVR:p If there isn't room for a PM, then from what I have looked at, this is the most bang for the buck. Tell your friend to have fun with it.:D ;)

ROFL at Glenn! :D

Here's the plan for ya Glenn. Just show her this, and tell her you can do things like it JUST for her. She will forget all about your wallet, and go out and buy you a lathe herself! ;) (Hey, it sounds good, don't it?)

According to Stephen Hawking, renowned theoretical physicist, the Event Horizon is that point along the edge of a Black Hole from which there is no escape. You've...er..I mean...your friend has reached that point Glenn.:)

01-13-2006, 7:25 AM
And for you Keith...you are actully the one to blame for ALL this. If you hadn't taken on this SMC thing...I'd be happily strolling along in the land of flatness. Now look what you've done.

Just by posting in the turning section of the forum, your already starting to weaken. It won't be long now.

Okay...Okay...Okay...Ken...I GIVE up....Uncle...DRLOML just said she can't take it anymore...she's buying me a DVR for my birthday in Feb.

Hhhhmmm...I wonder why she would wait until then????

Awright!!!!:D Why wait until Feb.???? Oh come now...You've hung out here enough to already know the answer to that one! A lathe, even the biggest, badest of lathes is pretty useless unless you're equiped! This gives you plenty of time to arm yourself with the proper arsenal, so that when you uncrate that baby, you'll be ready to rock 'n roll!!! :D

OK guys, who's got Glenn's address? We need to start stocking him up on some blanks!!! Glenn, you intend to go with some pens or are you jumping straight into the bowl vortex???? Both??? I'm sure we can come up with "something" for you to start with!!! :D

Yup...I agree. I'm in. I've been spending this last week getting blanks ready to ship to people. My basement is full,.... my garage is full. Even after I ship all the Buckeye that I owe people, there's got to be one or two scraps I can send to Glenn......And Ken ;)

I don't have anything overly large up here, but could arrange for a couple small to mid-size bowl blanks! :) Glenn, PM your snail mail.

Ken, I'll save a couple for you, too!:D Or, did you just want me to go ahead and send them along, so that they get there the same time the lathe does????:D :D :D

Way to go Glenn! Welcome to the dark side. Now if Ken will just relax and come out of the closet as it were, I'm sure I could find a small mesquete something to send to Idaho.

Jim Dunn

Maybe Ken needs to stay in the closet till Andy sets off his device? Or till he gets a lathe small enough to get in there with him?

Glenn,

I got my DVR at the same time as Carole. I think there is something wrong with mine! It does not produce the same quality of work that hers does! :) :o

The Oneway 1236 and Jet 1642 are both quality machines and are priced just about the same. I didn't have enough space for the Jet 1642. (That sucker is longgggg!) I didn't think the Oneway added enough capacity over my Delta Midi so I went with the Nova.

I've replaced the tool rest and the live center and Carole sent my some grips and a handle. These made a nice machine even nicer.

Also check through some of the older posts and see the handle midifications that Dick Parr made.

Hope this helps, Harry

Wow! Ya spend a whole day on the road (went to an absolutely worthless woodworking show) and look what's taken place. Faaaaaaar Out.

Good move, Glenn. I admire a guy who jumps up, declares his insanity, and then proves it in one fell swoop. Ya done good.

Now, Ken. We need to talk. I think you know what the topic will be.

The only "subliminal" message I can remember is the one with the flashing red words on the screen. :D

Guys and gals, this was an easy one. It took what... three threads and and one session with Bill G. and Glenn came over. Kicking and screaming, but nevertheless we got him.

Now for Ken... has he had his session with Bill G yet? If not... get a rope.

Got a feeling Andy is about to make a run to the bait store.

Sounds good. As long as the specific gravity does not exceed 29 hg/ml divided by the densisty (calculated as pi x the % of mass at -230° F) we should be AOK.
