I've been gone for a hot minute, between the new baby and work being super crazy, its been a tough slog. But I'm back, with my favorite project to date. A friend built a rocker not too long ago, which has been on my bucket list since i started this hobby a couple years ago. I figured it was out of my skill set for a while, but he ensured me that would not be the case. Now i wont say it was easy, but Hal Taylor has the best resources I've ever used, truly phenomenal. So I started in June and finished this week, I'd say conservatively 100 hrs into this guy. Its straight walnut, sanded to 1000 grit and finished in a single coat of 50:50 wipe on poly and mineral spirits. Its a christmas gift for my mom, so glad to get it out of my shop so early!

Very Well done. A similar build is on my bucket list as well. You have created a beautiful chair. I suspect your mother will feel blessed and think of you often with pride and thanks giving. This would make a fine addition to any home.

100 hours is pretty quick, i bet it took me longer than that a few years ago to finish my rocker. I think i started around May and finished in October.

Really like the book match sapwood seat.

The seat actually isn’t a bookmatch. I found a length of 8/4 walnut that when rotationally matched ended up being nearly symmetrical. I got really lucky.
