Picked this up at an auction a few weeks ago. Seems to have a rubber coating, 14” wide roller, 21 3/8” overall length, and about 4” diameter.

any ideas? It didn’t belong to any of the machines that were there.

That's too fat to be a planer roller. Drum sander?

My WAG: With that type of gum-rubber and the wear pattern, looks like an idler roller from an edge or stroke sander. Check residue on it- probably graphite from platen pad.

Indeed Jeff, there is some metallic sheen on it which I wasn’t sure about. An idler makes sense. Maybe I’ll post it over on 0WWM and see what they think.

The real question is why did you even bother to pick that up at an auction :D

It came with two other heads which I sold for a profit of $300.
