Anyone know of a good resource for blank laserable bricks? They would need to be exterior grade. It's for a fundraising project so cheap works too.LOL Any thoughts would be appreciated,as always.

Not to discourage you, but I *think* I heard this process is patented.

Dunno about bricks, but the Lasertile folks (www.lasertile.com (http://www.lasertile.com)) make a 8"x8" sand-colored unglazed exterior tile...about $5 each in boxes of 27.

I understood that there are 4 patents on different laser processes that when engraving turn the engraved area to glass. I doubt we could do this on the lasers we have, it's probably yag and/or more power than we have on most of ours. There are many companies that do laser engraving of bricks as fund raisers so I wouldn't worry about the patent issue, if you can find a brick that works go for it.

I have engraved a lot of bricks with my 35 watt laser. Use a clay based brick, Do the engraving as a vector not raster. I use 100 power 5 speed. Very easy to do.

James,

Where do you get the bricks that you use? Thanks

I have bought the bricks from Lowes, I also have several brick dealers in town.

I have a Home Depot and a Lowe's and that's it for brick supply for me. The first brick I ever did, I vectored and it turned out beautiful. Now I can't duplicate it at all. My results are very inconsistent. I get big blobs of "glass" on parts of it. Maybe it's the font or maybe it's the brick quality. I don't seem to be able to get the same kind as that first one I did.

Rebecca,

Where are you located? You might try going some construction sghts and talk to the foreman for the brick/block masons. They might be able to help you with a source for the brick. Also keep your eyes and ears opened for small towns that might be taking up the paver bricks. You would have to buy them, most likely but that might be another source.

I don't do the laser thing, just passing thorugh. Like to see some pics of your work if possible.:)
