Dewalt 745 riving knife

Anyone know what this closest to the blade notch/groove is for on the Dewalt 745 table saw riving knife? The middle one is for the antikickback pawls, and the one furthest out is for the guard, but what is the circled one for? I've borrowed s friend's saw and I'd like to use my power feeder on it, and that would work better if I ground off the section of the RK beyond that notch, but I don't want to eliminate a useful function. It's to help hold on a removable clear guard that has to be quickly removed for non-through cuts. This is a common arrangement for saws that use the same, including Euro sliders. A bar through the guard slips into the slanted slot and the fastener uses the other hole as a second mounting point.

Thanks Jim, --I see now, this slot works in conjunction with the rear one to lock the guard. Very slick! Luckily, I can grind off what I need to without affecting that locking slot.
