One of my PhD students is getting married to a Pakistani fellow. I figure I'll make them a nice segmented bowl as a gift. I would like to incorporate a little bit of deodar (cedrus deodara a/k/a Himalayan cedar, the national tree of Pakistan) as an accent. This doesn't seem to be commercially available as lumber, but the trees are sometimes grown as ornamentals here. Anyone know where I could source a small amount (~1 bd. ft.)?

Thanks,
Jim

Deodar Cedar grows fast and big here in middle California. It seems that anybody messing around with urban lumbering has big slabs of it. For instance, Jackel Enterprises https://www.jackelenterprises.com/ You might try them to see if they have smaller pieces.

Thanks, Jamie. Perhaps they have some offcuts. I have a friend in SLO who might be able to swing by there sometime (& pick up some artichokes;) ).
