Is the (soft drink) "Collins Mixer" still sold? If not, is there an equivalent for it? I recall it resembling a grapefruit soda, but the grapefruit sodas I've tried aren't exactly the same as Collins Mixer.

Canada Dry used to sell a Collins Mixer, but I haven't seen it in years. Two of the big names in pre-fab cocktail mixers, Mr. & Mrs. T's and Master of Mixes, both sell a bottled Collins Mix. No idea how they compare to the Canada Dry product.

There is also this but I prefer the bitter lemon.

That's the one I'd like to find - or find an identical product.

I'm 99% sure I just saw it, yellow container. I remarked as we passed it as I hadn't seen a Collins mix in that aisle in the longest time. It was a Food Lion store, east coast here. I'm not sure what the equivalent chain is out west, but if a rando Food Lion here has it, you gotta have it locally.

A lot of people recommend the Polar Tom Collins mixer as a replacement for the discontinued Canada Dry product. I think our Walmart has it.

Make your own, a lot cheaper than $11 per liter--

-- 1 part simple syrup (or experiment with honey or agave nectar for sweetness)
-- 2 parts fresh squeezed lemon juice (but RealLemon is fine ;) )
-- 4 parts club soda
-- ? parts gin

Mmmmmmmm! Schweppes bitter lemon straight used to be one of my favorite beverages.

Add rum and grenadine for a Caribbean Sunrise.

What qualifies as a "simple" syrup? I see that terminology used in many recipes.

It's just sugar water generally, but you can doctor it up as you see fit ('infusions', juices, etc.). Bartenders I've known suggested adding sugar to water until saturated (i.e. it just won't dissolve any more sugar - so it sits on the bottom of the container). Pour the solution into dispenser of choice; leaving last undissolved dregs on the bottom of the mixer. Party's on.
