View Full Version : Anyone know if a C02 or Fiber will etch polyester film? (Hello, Sheldrake?) :)

One of my customers used to run an awards shop, he's moved on to a swag marketing and fulfillment place with no engraving machinery, so I get some pretty good jobs from him sometimes. His latest need is engraved polyester film 'cards', or at least they look like cards (credit card-ish sized)... Getting some sample stock may take a few days, so just wondering if it's worth pursuing...

Thanks Darren-- I checked out the XT website, best I can tell a 'basic' fiber like mine marked that card... As to my customer, I never got any sample stock so that went nowhere anyway, and I had nothing to test, so still no clue about fiber lasering polyester...

The card in that video went black, so could be a MOPA doing it. Te vid states "PVC"- Unless that card is "treated" PVC or some sort of material blend, not sure how it went black-? a non-MOPA fiber will turn "normal" PVC gray, a C02 will turn it a rust-brown color. A fiber will turn polycarbonate black, but it doesn't do so as 'gently' as that card in the video, polycarb actually boils and fries under the beam...
