I finally finished the David Marks Walnut bench project. I economized by using Sapele instead of walnut. I used some left over Mahogony for the posts. I used General Finishes Seal-a-Cell and then many coats of Arm-R-Seal Gloss Topcoat. I used 0000 steel wool between each coat and then used Arm-R-Seal semi gloss for the final coat with a buffing after that. Some pics show the bench during finishing, some after.

I don't know exactly where it is going to go, but it was fun to do. My wife likes it, and she is the one that let me buy $8 million dollars of tools to build it.

Now I am on to his copper top sofa table made of walnut, with wenge feet and copper patina top in a solid walnut frame. Should look like this when I am done.

Marc,

Thanks, Mark, but remember, I made this from plans purchased from David Marks. It is a clean design, but not mine. Some day, the big leap will be when I design my own stuff. I am noodling around some ideas now for a coffee table, but so for, just building other's designs.

I think it is somewhat less, but that is what she claims. Either way, she is a keeper.

Marc, both table and bench look very nice. The aged cooper worked out great.

Marc

Glad your bench worked out so well! Nice job, the patina was worth the wait wasn't it?

You had me scared a bit there with one pic where the long sides of the base were parallel to the long side of the bench top -- that would have been REAL tippy! Guess that was just "how is this going to look" mode before you had it glued up.

Great work, Marc. I particularly like the colors in the tabletop, but both pieces are very nice.

Does she have a sister??? :D That will let me buy 8 mil. in tools too. Of course she has to understand I don't have the skill you have exibited in your work. But at least I'm old, bald, and broke...;)
