HI I am looking for screws for some cabinets that I am refinishing. The cabinets are 1940-50's era and have round headed screws that the latches catch on. the screws are a inch and a half long and have full balls on the end (not a pan head) does anyone know the name of this type? I googled round head and ball head but didn't find any thing.

Do you have a good, old fashioned hardware store near you? One of the older guys (or gals) there might be able to lead you in the right direction.

Check Mcmastercarr.com Page 2796
Item number 6 on that page is a catch with the type of screw that I think you are referring to. You may request to see if the screws are available by themselves as replacements. Also a good hardware store in your area may be the best source to find what you are looking for.
Fastenal Co. may also be a source
