I finished replacing the handle on my son's gent's saw, using the handle mentioned in the "first backsaw handle " thread (https://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?290829-First-backsaw-handle).

This is the original saw, with the handle he found a bit awkward to use:

Here's how it looks now:

I hope my son gets many years of enjoyment from it.

Michael,

It turned out extremely nice. A huge improvement! I am sure a lot of us will like the traditional look.

This is a much nicer, and probably much more functional saw than those made by the major makers after about 1940 or so. I think it was around 1930 to 1940 or so, that they stopped making such beautiful handles and putting on the "D" shaped abominations.

I like it a lot even though I try to avoid red oak for tool handles. I especially like how crisp the top and bottom profiles are still after the grip shape is more refined. 100 years from now someone is going to see that handle with some wear and tear on it and wish they had gotten to see it today, it is a beauty. Nice going!

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I can only hope that someone is still using the saw 100 years from now. And, I hope, enjoying the handle.

Perhaps it'll even stay in the family.
