I have had the Sorby texturing set for a few weeks, and decided to get some play time on it. Since my shop time has been cut way down the past few months, I figured a platter would not take much time to finish.
This Cherry plate was from part of a crotch that had some cracks because of some pith areas. It has been setting around for a while and I almost threw it out in the burn pile a few times.:o so I put it on the chuck to try it out, and If it messed up it would be no loss. this tool is very simple to use for the texturing and the patterns are only limited to your imagination.
It measures 11 1/2 wide x 3/4" thick. Finish it wipe on Gel Poly.

That is an understatement. Jimbo you are terrific. Excellent first or twentieth attempt. Really like how it complements the form without taking your eyes completely away from the main area of the platter.:D

More great work, Jim! And good job with the new tool. But... you actually have a tool that you didn't build yourself??? :D

Thanks for the pictures!

Great platter Jim. :) :) You did great with the new tool. I tried it many moons ago without success.:( So the tool just sets and collects dust:( With turnings like this I think thats what I should do:D

That looks great Jim. Did you use the fixture with it, or by itself?

Nice job Jim. I have one of those things, tried it out, it did not work just right, laid it down and have not picked it up in over a year, maybe I should pick it up again.

Great first attempt Jim! I have a home made texture tool made
from a piece of bandsaw blade but haven't got around to
any serious use yet, hope to do as well as you.
