What do you think of this jointer on CL?

I have never heard of the brand but I found a manual for it online at one of the old power tool sites.

It was made in Guelph, Canada and the manual looks 1960's.

I can make a stand and get a motor, so no problem there.

Thanks

Hi Steve;
Beaver is an old Canadian brand that produced high quality "hobbyist" tools in a foundry in Guelph, Ontario ( 60 miles NW of Toronto) until the early 80's. They went out of business because of the cheaper tools shipped here from Taiwan. I had one of their 3100 table saws until the mid 90's. Built like the proverbial **house. Also had the jointer back then. Short bed but very solid. The only issue would be the flatness of the beds and the bearings. The motor is any stand household one. A great company long gone. Regards,
Dave

If you go to a certain Canadian woodworking forum (don't understand why direct links aren't allowed) you will find lot's of information about Beaver tools and probably several discussions about that particular jointer. There are several guys who own and have restored many Beaver power tools. Here's a link to the history of the company

I have a Rockwell Beaver table saw myself.

Thanks for the information, guys.

Sounds like this is a pretty good unit. The manual I found for it shows an exploded view. It has tapered bearings, which I could probably find if needed.

The Rockwell and Delta connections are interesting.

For the price its probably worth a shot.
