Some 40 years ago I had a Sears brush cutter. Straight shaft with what amounted to a 9 or 10 inch saw blade on the end. I could cut anything up to about 3 1/2 to 4 inches quite nicely. Like all good things it eventually died. I'd like to find a similar cutter today. But almost everything I see is either string based or the little wimpy piece of sheet metal with 3 cutting edges. I don't want to cut weeds, I want to cut brush!!

Any suggestions? Anyone have an old Sears brush cutter they're not using?!

Do a Google search. Literally dozens to chose from. For recommendations, need to know dollars available, area to be cut and stem size to be cut. Then gas vs electric.

+1 on Stihl.

Our forest firefighting crews at our mountain cabin use the Stihl products for this.

Stihl. The saw blade kit is an add-on to any of the line trimmers. For 4" I get out the chain saw, but up to 2" it works great.

I'm still running a Stihl FS450K, that was new in 1999. I can't imagine one would work any better, but they do have newer, and larger models. Most people don't seem to like the carbide tipped blades, but I do. No blade on a string trimmer will do the work as easily as a dedicated clearing saw. I forget how much displacement, and horsepower mine has, but it has a compression release that you absolutely have to use if you start it hanging on the harness. It's a beast.

Gravely made a 30" circular saw blade attachment for their two wheel tractors. They also made a chainsaw for it as well

Ditto, a pretty nice system.
