Hello folks, I 've been working steady on my project, cleaning and storing away roots as well as cleaning up the burl. I finally got it off the ground and most of the rot is out of the inside.

The entire burl except one small piece is made up of this pattern when taken down to the hardwood.

The second picture is the front, and the rest walk you around the entire piece.

It's all hollow, although it weighs probably about 5000 pounds, there isn't much meat inside the shell. I'm thinking it can be made into a huge bar or something, possibly using granite as a top.

Funny you mention that, I still don't have one toyota pickup load of scrap material off this entire project. And that's including the roots that I dug out after I lifted this piece out. I just can't get myself to throw anything out, it all has so much character.

As Shirley Temple would say, "Oh my gooness!"

That's impressive...what kind of wood is it, and how will you cut it?

I don't. But for that thing, I'd make it happen.

As a public service, I thought I'd post the link to Glen's original post that answers some of the questions about his burl...

Hi Jack, It's an old Maple tree that was growing in my yard. The last few years it's been dropping leaves all summer and producing zillions of seeds, indicating that its days are done. For many years I've studied it and made plans of how to remove it without damaging it.

Last year the city pointed out that they will be bringing in a law that people cannot remove old trees from their own property. That's where I got my energy to hand dig each root, cut them off and lift it out.

That burl maple is beautiful. You have just under 2 1/2 tons of burl wood. Do you have any idea how much that is worth?

I have absolutely no idea how much it's worth or how it's worth the most. That's part of the reason why I've kept it one piece.
