View Full Version : WATCO Danish oil thicker?

I recently purchased a gallon of WATCO Danish oil by Rustoleum. I have used this stuff for 40 years. But this recent gallon seems quite thick and builds up quicker to a satin finish in 3 coats. My basement shop is quite cool in the winter so maybe that is why. Anyway, I like the way this one builds up.

Do you think the formula has changed?

Thanks,

Gordon

I think that solvent-based varnishes are thicker now than they were thirty or forty years ago. The manufacturers are under pressure to put less VOCs in the can. An easy way to do that is to put less solvent in the can. For woodworkers, the change is easily reversible -- add your own solvent.
