Some time ago I read one of Jim Becker’s posts and he wrote that he “upped” his woodworking after he retired. I was inspired by Jim’s words so I challenged myself to do the same. I have tackled Martin Milkovits’ Country Hutch.

I am still working on the top and will post pictures when completed. Wood is cherry and finished with BLO and wipe on Poly.

In the plan Milkovitz used a combination of stains to simulate many years of aging. When I did a test sample, it looked a lot like stained poplar. I thought, why spend the money on cherry to make it look like stained poplar. Nature will do a more beautiful job. The hutch will be in an area that gets plenty of sunlight.

Beautiful work, Ed. Cherry is at the top of the list for me. It will age nicely. There are a lot of folks at SMC that inspire me daily. I enjoy every project posted.

Our home has an open floor plan with plenty of windows and a sliding door leading to a deck. The kitchen, dining area, and living room all come together. The hutch will go near the eating area. With all the windows this room gets lots of sun.
