I have already drawed a circle on the ground, put an X in the middle of it, and spit in it 3 times for good luck that I can finish this piece. I started turning on this "concrete" excuse me pecan bowl in December 2003, and I put it away to dry. It was 30 inches in diameter, and the walls were 3 inches thick. I started working on this thing again yesterday, and I just be doggone if I know when I will be through. Have you ever had anything that you know you should do but kept procrastinating, well this was mine. People would ask me if I had worked on the big one, and I would say it was still drying. I have walked by it for 2 years and the time has come to go to work on it so I am hard at it. I thought I would post a picture to let you all know about my trials and tribulations down here in Georgia.

Same thing as a small bowl Glenn. Just more of it. You can do it I'm sure.

Pecan is one of my favorites though it can be brittle at times. Good luck.

Is that a bowl or a snow slide for the little girl? Looks like she would fit in it. Good luck. Can't wait to see the finished pictures.

Yep....that a big'un fer sure Glenn.....Be careful and take your time on the finish turning of that big bowl. Shouldn't take you more that about a full case of sandpaper to sand that baby for a good oil finish. :D

Thanks everyone, I am using a Euro 2000, 2HP Poolewood lathe. I sure needed the encouragement.

Hi Glen,

I thought that looked like a Poolewood obscured by that wading pool you are working on. Impressive piece and I know you would have a bunch of potential buyers if when finished you wanted to sell it.

Glenn,

Is the issue the size of the bowl or the fact that Pecan is harder than Chinese arithmetic? I haven't had the pleasure of suffering through a project using pecal but a friend of mine has warned me that it is real tough to work.

Compared to this, your bowl should be a piece of cake.
