I have a DJ-15 delta 6" Jointer that I upgraded to a Byrd cutterhead. It is now underpowered when flattening 6" hardwoods. The current motor has a 5/8" shaft with a 6.5" pulley. I have found a 2 HP motor but it has a 3/4" shaft. I cannot find a 6.5" pulley for a 3/4" shaft. Would it be best to go with smaller or larger pulley ?

Are you measuring the pulley from the center in the bottom of the v-groove (flat) or the outside edge (outside diameter)? I've found the OD is a little subjective depending how the company makes them. McMaster Carr usually has a large selection of pulleys. Slightly smaller will slow down the cutter while slightly bigger will speed it up. My Powermatic 8" jointer with a Byrd head has a 2hp motor and seams just fine so I would think on a 6" jointer you could go faster without worrying about a lack of power. You could also replace the other pulley (and maybe the belt) to get the correct ratio but that just seams like an added expense. However I have always wanted to swap from the standard v belt to mult-rib for added smoothness (even though I've never had an issue with vibrations) on several tools.

You should be able to find the pulley here. https://electricmotorwarehouse.com/pulleys-sheaves/

Verify your motor speed; 6.5" drive sheave suggests that the original motor is 1725 RPM, A 3450 RPM motor may produce catastrophic results.

Get a taperlock pulley and hub to match. Are you sure
it is not metric?

The largest 4L pulley they have is 6".

The existing and new motor are both 1725 RPM

McMaster Carr has the pulley I need.
Thanks for the info.
