I am considering mounting castors to a lift table or using a shop made (or otherwise) mobile base to move lift table around the shop to various locations. The lift itself weighs damn near 1000 pounds. Add a torsion box top and a large base cabinet and we are somewhere close to 1500 pounds. What are the practical limits for castors/mobile base?
Any feedback appreciated.

They make casters that can hold 500+ pounds. If you get the ones below, 550 lbs, you can use them to move around 2200 pounds worth of 'stuff'

What is a lift table?
I would be worried about putting holes in your floor if it were that weight.
I have made two bases inspired by Carl Holmgren and can lift over a 200kg tablesaw, say 250kg with timbers stacked on top, with about the effort of a foot operated bicycle pump,
so imagine that twice that wouldn't be an issue, but going over 1000 pounds I wouldn't know.
I made a wheely good workbench solution wheel kit for my bench if it's of interest, stacked a load of hardwood on top but didn't wan't to over do it, bad floor and really cheap casters.
I really like it.
Not sure if it's what your looking for, but might be of interest.
All the best

Here is another base I welded up for the tablesaw, using a similar system.

It's only 210kg, but you can see how easily the design works, and its no issue with at least another 50 or 60kgs on top.
I've never tried loading it to see how much it can lift, but reckon could do 500kg easy enough.

You would get a better impression if the floor pads weren't there, but with the design, the load isin't spread out like it is with the workbench, so harder on the floor.
Look closely and you might make out some damage to my shoddy floor, mainly from the casters, there's at least one tennis ball sized one caused by the hidden 55mm wheel.

Going back to workbenches, here's another good looking system of stout looking retractable casters, from Riverbuilder
Might want to ask him how much it can lift.

Good luck

The Bora Super duty mobile bases are good for 1500 lbs. I have a 1000 lb machine on one and it handles like a baby carriage. I'm really impressed with the quality of them.

Tom, Its a scissor lift. I bought four 4" casters each rated for 800 pounds today for it.
