Does anyone know of a good place to buy wood near Ocala, Florida? I mean hardwoods, not Home Depot pine corkscrews.

There's Weiss Hardwood in Largo, Anderson Lumber in St. Petersburg, and Intercity Lumber in Tampa. I never looked North of Tampa, so there may be someone closer to you.

Google “hood distribution.” They are the parent of McEwen Lumber in Apopka. Orlando also has Thomas Lumber on the south side. Their online catalog is impressive. If you are new to the area just head south on 441 and you will hit Apopka before Orlando. They also have McEwen in Jacksonville.

IIRC McEwen in Jacksonville has a will call from 0800-1000 for non-contractors with a $300 minimum.

There's a small hardwood supplier in Daytona that carries some essentials for furniture-making. Google Mainstream Hardwoods.

So it looks like a hundred-mile drive, one way, just to look around. Well, I did want to live in the country...
