Hi,

I have the T7 that I use for chisels and knives. The planer blade add on is $200... so I'm wondering what the quality of the vendors are. I pulled out a new set of 13" blades and put the cutting edge against the jointer surface and saw that they are slightly convex (high point in the middle along the length). I've also heard another woodworker complain about the quality of vendors with regards to sharpening.

If the vendor quality is good, I may just skip the buying the Tormek add on and ship them out when needed..

I have diamond hones to keep my planer blades and all blades sharp.

If the blades are nicked the water stone takes forever to get the nicks out

My local vendor is the best I've ever seen. Incredibly cheap and I can shave with them when I get them back. They sharpen a lot of paper shear blades. The chuck on their grinder is 16' long. They put down a fence and grind all the blades in one set up. All blades are identical width. They have a honing machine that polishes it and takes off the burrs. They are located in East Peoria, IL and will accept shipments of knives

I have the Tormek plane blade jig I like it. As mentioned it’s very slow to grind out large nicks for the most part I can get two sharpening sessions on the Tormek until I need to send them back to the professional sharpening service. They have a large machine called Cincinnati that grinds a perfectly straight edge at the angle I want.

Some places listed under "saw sharpening " have machines for sharpening planer knives. When those machines get
worn out they can put an unwanted curve on the knives.
