red cherry finish ?

I have a bed that has cherry inserts in the head and footboards, I am re-using the inserts and adding posts and longer rails in place of the original flat boards to make the bed wider to fit a queen mattress, Question is this bed is probably 30+ years old and will need to closely match the finish with redoing the inserts so it matches the rest of the bedroom set. on the bottom of a board is stamped lacquer #20 meaning nothing except it obviously has lacquer and I am sure it was sprayed, the color is very redish and of med to light in color, Need some recommendations on what to start with to get the red color and not having a sprayer what to topcoat it with to get a close match it does appear to have a clear coat probably the lacquer but what to use to get the redish color is my big question, I have not finsihed much cherry except with BLO and I just want to tr several options on scrap till I get it close enough.
