Any suggestions on an LED bandsaw light? I had an cheap $20 led magnet mount light but it's gone bad. I was looking at Laguna's new LED light but dropping $150 for a light seems a bit excessive. This is for my Laguna 14BX.

I've thought about getting a nice one, but there are a ton of cheap options I'm going to try first. Things like the Harbor Freight free magnet lights or these from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Dimmable-MINGER-Dressing-Daylight-Workbench/dp/B07CVRVPRM/ref=sr_1_34_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=led+strip+lights&qid=1608558717&sr=8-34-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEzNUVLM0dCTkJMVFJVJ mVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMDU0NDI5MzlKSU5GVkowWjNSNyZlbmN yeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwOTgzMTUxM0ZRSzdJT0UxRk0xRiZ3aWRnZ XROYW1lPXNwX210ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05 vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU= Home Depot has the same kind of stuff but it's more expensive.

That just gave me an idea.... I have leftover LED strip roll from when I did my under-cabinet lights. I jsut need to see if I have a transformer to power it. I also still like the lights on a goose-neck since I can move positions if I need to.

I use the sewing machine lights also. They're so cheap, that when they inevitably go bad, they're easily replaced. The ones on my bandsaw and drill press will last indefinitely because they stay in one place. The ones at my lathe are moved constantly and need to be replaced every 6 months or so.

I bought this magnetic attachment and sized an appropriate mag lite to insert. No wires and great flexibility to aim light where needed either around the bandsaw or any where else needed.

I use two LED lights with a magnetic base on my bandsaw. I bought these on Amazon for about $14 each. I use them everywhere I can. The lighting is great. They are easy to move and adjust.

Not really an answer to the question but I find myself more and more using an LED headlamp for detail-oriented shop projects.

My Rikon 10-325 came with a flex mounted light. Nice! But wait, it's mounted to the back, outfeed side of the frame, so the light can only illuminate the areas after the cut  You've got to wonder how some designs even make it out of the factory door. Any way, after about an hour of cussing & fussing, I got it moved to the front of the frame and it works great there.

Laguna is very proud of their accessories, which is why my 14 BX rolls around on an aftermarket base and I do not have their lights. i am not sure what power the Laguna plug is, but have been thinking about getting into the wiring to adapt it if necessary. I have been using the HF mag base $7 light on mine recently. With the quality of the LED headlamps, I think Eric is onto something.

I have these on some of my machines, while not LED but maybe they have them now. Nice and stiff, think arms is available in 18"or 24" Moffatt light

I have a sewing machine light on my small bandsaw. It is behind the blade and I only use it when I'm sawing ebony or rosewood, which I work with often for fretboards. The light reflects off the pencil marks and up to my eyes, so I can see the lines I drew when I'm cutting. Otherwise I can't see them at all without getting my face down within a few inches of the blade, which I don't think is a good idea since I like my nose well enough the way it is. On lighter colored woods, and even walnut, I can see the lines without needing a light, but someday if I get older (as I hope to do) I am sure I will.

I bought a couple of these: https://www.amazon.com/Magnetic-Multi-Task-Light-Daylight-LEDs/dp/B012C240BS/ref=sxts_sxwds-bia-wc-nc-drs1_0?cv_ct_cx=sewing+machine+light&dchild=1&keywords=sewing+machine+light&pd_rd_i=B012C240BS&pd_rd_r=f3615739-4aae-4a1d-b05e-4f7207e72778&pd_rd_w=vE4qr&pd_rd_wg=OWJle&pf_rd_p=8f655ecb-bc8c-4750-9088-950aa74d52dd&pf_rd_r=E63M95G6EWQB4T1DC7TM&psc=1&qid=1608576110&sr=1-1-88388c6d-14b8-4f70-90f6-05ac39e80cc0
The magnetic base makes one useful on a number of tools. There are options with longer/shorter gooseneck lengths and number of LEDs.

This is funny - that is the exact sewing machine light I purchased that started to flicker/go bad. Even when I click the link I get this "You last purchased this item on March 28, 2019" I hope you have better luck than I did :) I will order it again and see if I have better luck. Seems like all the lights everyone has posted are similar to this in some way or another.

I am going to also wire up a strip of the led light strip roll as a 2nd light source.

Thanks all.

On my Delta 14", I use the Delta magnetic goose neck. After ruining several standard light bulbs, I put a CFL in it (day light bright,) which I bought a pack of four from HD for $0.99 several years back. The vibrations don't seem to bother it as they did regular bulbs. Been on the saw, with same bulb for four years now.

I used a 12 volt 'wall wart' to power LED strips for my desk area. 12 volt 2 amp should be good for up to 16' of LED strip. Works fine.

Magnetic mount gooseneck here...it's older and halogen, but does the job. If and when it dies, I'll replace with a similar LED unit. I like to be able to easily reposition the light for a specific cutting operation, so the gooseneck is handy for that. The magnetic base allows it to be moved if necessary, too.

What's your budget? Mostly you get what you pay for. I have numerous lights including some cheap ones and those I like and use the most are not exactly cheap.

For example, I have one of these on both lathe, bandsaw, drill press, photo booth, milling machine, and sharpening station.
https://woodturnerswonders.com/products/super-nova-lathe-lamp

For the bandsaw, I really like multiple lights. I use one of those just mentioned positioned near my left shoulder. I have a Moffatt on a short gooseneck on the right and another adjustable light on the left. That, plus bright overheads gives what I consider excellent lighting.

I have a number of those small LED "sewing machine" lights and IMO they can supplement light but can't work alone. I did this test once with two lights, the SuperNova LED on the left and the small LED on the right, both the same distance from the wall.

I did the same on my Rikon, but replaced the light with a flexible neck LED light as well. The neck on the built-in lamp really wasn't stiff enough to hold the lamp up reliably, and the LED is much brighter.

I can recommend two types of lights, having used both.

The first is this cheap LED with a switch. It last well, and then toss and replace ...

Here, sited on my drill press ...

I have since changed this out to a rechargeable bicycle light, and have on the drill press and the bandsaw ..

I epoxied a rare earth magnet to the light, and this is how it is attached ...

I have this one: https://woodturnerswonders.com/collections/lamps/products/galaxy-multipurpose-lathe-lamp and am super pleased.

It was inexpensive ($20), is super bright, and was a good fit for my Rikon 10-325. The magnetic base holds very firm and the gooseneck is just the right length.I saw it on a Stumpy Nubs "Cool Tools" video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60lkKqCguqw. It's at about the three minute mark.

I also have one of these from Lee Valley: https://www.leevalley.com/en-us/shop/tools/workshop/lighting/71189-magnetic-mount-led-work-light?item=15J7701. It's OK for very focused spot lighting but has otherwise been a disappointment. It's not very bright and the gooseneck doesn't like to stay where you point it.

I bought two sewing machine lights, one for the bride and her sewing machine and one for my shop - use it on my bandsaw. Had both now for about 5 years, work great, about $12 each off internet if I remember right. Could use a little more light on bandsaw as my eyes are getting old.... Randy

What I'm looking for is a magnetic based light that works on 240 volts. Right now I'm using the Rikon light that was mounted on the back of the spine but is now held in place with magnets. It works but requiring 2 power cords isn't as convenient as it could be.

That's going to be tough to find, I suspect. May be easier to require to a four wire 240v/120v outlet at the wall and put an auxiliary outlet on your machine, depending on your access to the feeder cable between the outlet and the breaker box. You could also tie a 120v extension cord to your machine cord to at least route power for both machine and light the same for convenience and safety.

My 14BX has a 220V receptacle built into it for the Laguna light. They just came out with a new LED one that ships with 110v plug but can work off both, 110 or 220, just need to cut the plug off and put on a 220 (per Laguna). But, it's a bit expensive for a light at $150. So, I have a 110v receptacle next to my 220 bandsaw receptacle for the 'sewing machine' light I was using, now replaced with a new one when Amazon shows up.
