Can I put lacquer over a coat of shellac?
This is what the Deft site says about it, I'm taking it that it means I can.

DO NOT APPLY CLEAR WOOD FINISH over varnishes, enamels (or any other product that dries by oxidation), lifting or wrinkling may result.

Thanks

Yes,there is no problem overcoating shellac with lacquer. Just give the shellac a day to fully harden.

No, the shellac does not need to be dewaxed. Dewaxed shellac is only a problem under oil based polyurethane varnish or under waterborne clear finishes.

Lacquer can be applied over wax containing shellac.

Howard is right, and, none of his advise contradicts the Deft website since shellac dries by evaporation not oxidation.
