My mom asked me to build her a cabinet. Here is the progress.

Decided to go with a glued and screwed rabbet joint for this build. Its not a family heirloom, but want it to last longer than an ikea cabinet. Wood is a all 5/4 pine panels and the rabbets are cut with a 78, then pilot holes are drilled with a no 2a millers falls and counter sunk with a bit and brace.

Tonight the bottom panel was rabbeted on 3 sides for the "carcass" to fit into. This is where I left off for now. Next step will be to attach the bottom, then fit the top and build some doors.

Definitely not the most glamorous thing ever built, but there has been quite a bit of effort put into it so far.

Good progress, Jason. Pine isn’t always the easiest wood to work. Nice job on the rabbets.

Jason,
Looks good!

That much 5/4 pine is probably quite hefty to move around, what is the cabinet for? Regardless, it will be stout enough to handle it.

Patrick,

It is quite hefty. My mother has a pet rabbit and needed a stand alone cabinet she could set the cage on and an area to set the supplies in underneath.

Being its going to be moved around and not permanently attached to anything I figured a little extra stoutness would be worth it.
