First time I ever turned redwood. Kind of soft, but I still like it.
15" x 3" platter or shallow bowl. Light figure. BLO and POLY finish, only one coat so far.
Sorry that second picture's so big.... don't know why.... The other one sized okay.

Adam - The bigger the picture the better. Especially when it has such wonderful figure as this one does. I like it. A lot.

Another fine bowl/platter Adam. Right form for that curl.

Beautiful! Just curious, is that some redwood that was meant to be turned or is it some redwood that came from a board like you could buy at Home Depot or something?

Great job. I love red wood. I have question for ya. did it turn well? I have only turn very small chunks of for bird house and found it to be soft and it come apart easy. Now that could just be the stuff I was working with. What did you think?

looks beautiful! Great job. I am interested in what the others asked also concerning hardness and turnability. I like the big picture also.

The redwood turned nice, but it tended to tear out just a bit since it was so soft, especially when it was only partially dry.
Once dry, the finish turning went great with careful technique.
I do think it's awfully soft, and I don't think it would stand up to regular daily use, so I guess it's just decorative.
Turning a small piece (a confetti lamp) out of this stuff, I made too much heat sanding at a high rpm, and it developed cracks. I was much more careful with the large blank, and it went fine.
This was purchased on Ebay for about $25. I've got another piece that makes the figure in this one look BORING!!!! Wanted to do a testrun before tackling the pretty wood.
Thanks for all the nice comments.
