Since I occasionally complain about not enough work being posted, and since I had the camera in the shop last night, thought I'd show what I worked on. From a senescent sugar maple in the maple sugar stand. It was in significant decline, but had a lot of character. The intrusion of tapping into these trees creates all sorts of interesting patterns; this particular blank only had a few, but sapsucker damage creates additional black flecks, sometimes very dramatically.

Tap holes filled with epoxy/ground coffee, thin CA glue used to stabilize the punky spots. Danish oil then trip, WD, carnuba buff. Circa 12" in diameter. Thin at the edge, a little over 1/4" in the main wall. Some of the photos make the lip look squared off, it is not.

Best,

Dave
