Made this box a few years back. It started out as Russian Plywood and finger joints, then added some cherry and cherry veneer I had lying around.
Timber framing chisels get moved around outside a lot. The goal of the design was to keep the sharp end from hitting anything. If the box somehow opens during transport I did not want the chisels to fall out easily.

The box is not small, the chisels are large!

The middle retainer has chamfered holes to match the chisels with slot access. In order to remove the chisel you need to slide it back so the flat of the chisel can escape the retainer. This meant the end of the box had to be attached to the lid. It is impossible for the sharp end to hit the end of the box, the filler pieces in the lid reduce rattle up and down.

The chisels do not slide freely to the left as the widening of the chisel to the flat creates an uphill to keep it in place.
I offer this design as an alternate to the usual box.
