Ok guys and gals decided to start the New Year right. Took some time and went to the shop today. Decided I may as well jump in with both feet. Here are some pictures of my first pen. I thought I did real well for the first time. I made it from a black walnut log I got from the neighbor. Now I have to go back out and make SWMBO one. She tried to steal this one and I told her the first one is not going anywhere. Thanks for all of your help and encouragement. I appreciate it.

Bernie....Maybe you should have given the pen to your wife so she has something to remember you by...cuz she's never going to see you now!!!!:D :D

Well done! By the way...I really like the combo of the walnut and brushed chrome/Aluminum? I woulda never thunk it but it is nice looking!!

Nice effort Bernie. What's next - the demo circuit or a dvd?

I recall the proud feeling I had when I completed my first pen. Jumped right back in and ruined the next five or six.

Keep it up!

Bernie, one pen from one log is not a very good use of a walnut log....:p :D It looks great. You are a turner now!!!! Have fun and be safe!:D

Thanks everyone. It was a great feeling. My wife picked out the zebra wood for hers. It came out pretty nice to.

John don't know why I picked brushed look but glad I did. I liked the brushed look on the dark wood. It just kinda clicked.

My wife did make the comment that now she will probably just see me long enough to eat supper from now on.

Hi Bernie,
I must say for a first pen, that one is outstanding. Not that I am any pen turning specialist by any means. To be honest, as some hear on SMC know, I have never turned one. I guess the reason is, when I was a young pup, I had an aunt and uncle that worked in a bank. Every birthday, christmas, new years, mothers day, well you get the picture, just about every holiday on the calendar I received a pen, most of the time two. I believe that put the kibosh on any interests in pen making. However I do have the utmost respect for those that create the fine works of art.

With all respect, and appreciation for you showing your first pen and allowing me to see it. I am going to show you mine.

No big thing, just dip and go.

Bernie - Looks like you're ready to be recruited for the Freedom Pen Project now. A nicely made pen is what a member of our armed forces could really use!!! "Uncle SMC" wants you!!

Semper Fi,

Hank
